Build complex toys and simple tools

Sunglasses. Seems like a fairly ordinary subject. I was sitting on our porch, and I took off my sunglasses and put them down on the table. They threw an interesting shadow. Not a real shadow, since you could see through the glass, and they only gave sort of a half shadow. In addition, the sun was directly due west of our house, and the shadows lined up with the times on our table. The original shots were promising, but lacked magic. So I worked on them to add the feeling for the heat and light of the summer sun. This article uses a new feature of my blogging software that lets you see the before and after views. On these pictures, you can see the original version by just clicking on the picture.
Some technical notes: The pictures were shot with my Panasonic DMC-FZ35 and the magic was added with LightZone. The lighting was supplied by Mother Nature and the alignment of the sun is by Father Time. These are some of the last pictures that I shot with my FZ35. A very good camera. It didn't have the astounding sharpness of my FZ18, but it was a better all-around camera, willing to venture into photographic situations where the FZ18's need for perfect lighting and white balance made it prone to failure. They've been replaced by my brand new DMC-FZ150, which combines the best features of the FZ18 and FZ35 and adds a few new features of its own.Stay tuned.
