Every morning, I spend a couple of hours exploring the many marvels of the Internet. One day, I was reading an article about David Singer who designed posters for Bill Graham's concerts at Fillmore West. It was the Golden Age of music.

I came across this poster for a concert by Quicksilver Messenger Service and Mott the Hoople. Imagine my surprise, at seeing this image from fifty years ago. That's my picture! It's Alzana, the tightrope walker, that I shot one night at the circus.

So how did David Singer get my picture of Alzana?

It turns out that David Singer, at the time, was using collage as his main method of assembling pictures. This meant going through magazines and books, finding pictures, then assembling them into collages. Not as simple as it seems. You have to photograph the images, then print them out at the correct size so all of the images would fit together. And this was twenty years before the first version of Photoshop.
